Priory is one of the very few roller shutter door manufacturers left that still produces manual chain operated roller shutters… …And in large quantities – why? Manual roller shutters are a lost art! Most manufacturers don’t build manual roller shutters anymore because they either just don’t know how or consider it too costly/complicated!

It’s quite a boast, but Priory makes the complex simple. Our individual design of our manual roller shutters, in combination with engineers that are time-served with over 70 years of expertise behind us, ensures that our manual roller shutters are incredibly competitive yet brilliantly engineered, which helps eliminate spring breakage for long-term balance, safety and reliability.

Spring counter-balanced, resettable safety brakes, certified compliant

We have the engineering know-how to manufacture well balanced manual roller shutters with anti-fall-back safety brakes that won’t accidentally “fire” after a certain number of operations or on-site abuse. Our experience in spring calculation and selection, combined with tested safety brakes, ensures reliable operation every time.

We haven’t just bought in a TUV tested safety brake and stuck it on our roller shutters… We’ve tested our roller shutters as a complete door.

From when regulations were first introduced, we achieved the multiple drop tests required for the resettable designation of safety brake (a variation from the standard anti fall-back test) and have had it validated with full certification, as well as achieving a +/-5 wind load classification and testing with certification for out of balance forces, for full compliance with regulations. Nothing but fully compliant shutters from Priory!

Small roller shutters can be self-coiling “push up – pull down”, larger roller shutters on either a single or double reduction geared haul chain assembly, dependent upon size – simple, effective and ultra-reliable. Sizes for geared haul chain roller shutters are up to 6500mm x 6500mm (4500mm x 4500mm for Ganymede insulated roller shutters).

Insulated shutters for an alternative to sectional doors or traditional scrolled steel lath

We manufacture “traditional” scrolled steel lath manual shutters – see the Titan range – but Priory also manufactures 95mm insulated lath manual shutters – see the Ganymede range. The very few remaining manufacturers of manual roller shutter doors wouldn’t dream of trying to balance an insulated variation of a chain operated door. At Priory, we do it with confidence!

Insulated shutters are a very economical alternative (particularly in their manual form) to sectional doors and also bring the big benefit of a small headroom requirement and no tracks protruding into the building space.

And insulated Wicket Gates too!

A wicket gate in a steel shutter is a relatively common request, however the same for an insulated shutter has not been available until now… …from Priory. We’ve added the option of a wicket gate to the Ganymede insulated shutter. It’s a neat piece of design that is universally handed and very fitter friendly with only bolt fixings to install, no welding required…

What about powered shutters?

We’ve focussed on manual shutters here, however powered shutters are also second nature to Priory. Single phase tubular motor driven or single-phase/three-phase power operated drives in variants for in-board/out-board flange mounting and direct drive. All motors are available with a range of control options.
